Denmark-based Asian restaurant chain Sticks'n'Sushi is to open its first UK site in London.
Described as a sushi restaurant even for those who don't like fish, Sticks’n’Sushi has nine sites in Copenhagen and employs more than 450 people. The London branch will open in Wimbledon in March.
Serving Yakitori grilled sticks and sushi with a Nordic touch, the restaurant chain prides itself on sourcing sustainable fish. On the menu, for example, is yellowfin tuna line-caught off the cost of Senegal, salmon which is farmed near Trondhjem in Norway, and MSC certified sea scallops caught off Canada's east coast.
Sticks'n'Sushi is one of the fastest growing restaurant groups in Denmark and it could be looking to replicate that success here as it seeks additional sites in the UK.
The chain was founded in 1994 by Thor Andersen and brothers Kim and Jens Rahbek.
In December, Horizons Ones to Watch survey identified a clear growth in Japanese cuisine, which it claims meets consumers’ demand for something healthy and different.
