Finalists named in Sustainability Award

Finalists named in Sustainability Award

With just six weeks to go now until the grand final in London, the finalists of the 2012 National Fish & Chip Awards Good Catch Award for Sustainability have been named.

The Bay in Stonehaven, Harbour Lights in Falmouth, and Frankie’s in Brae will now battle it out for the national title in London on Tuesday 17th January.

Each year, the Good Catch Award honours those in the fish and chip shop industry who have made the greatest changes and contribution to sustainable fish sourcing.

Emily Howgate of SeaWeb’s Seafood Choices, one of the award sponsors, said: “The dedication of these shops to sustainability and the hard work they have put in – both in their seafood and in their entries to this year’s competition – shows how important sustainable sourcing is to them all.

“Sustainable sourcing has never been more important and their passion for sustainable seafood and their creativity in taking that to their customers puts them at the cutting edge of the industry.”

For The Bay in Stonehaven, the award is cause for double celebration after it was also named Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2012 in Scotland.

Calum Richardson of The Bay, said: “I’m delighted to have reached the final as all the staff have worked incredibly hard to convey our sustainable message and it’s been a priority of The Bay for a long time.”
