World’s largest doner is one almeaty kebab

World’s largest doner is one almeaty kebab

Kismet Kebabs in Chelmsford, Essex, has made what it believes to be the world’s largest doner kebab weighing over 2,000kg (65st).

It took over a week to hand make the mighty lamb kebab and cost in excess of £4,000 using quality cuts of meat. The spit stands at over 6ft 3inches tall and has to be lifted by a forklift truck to and from the freezer.

Managing director Peter Michael, who set his staff the challenge, said: “You have to get it to bind together correctly and this becomes more difficult the larger you go. We couldn’t go any bigger because we have custom built freezers and it wouldn’t fit any larger, but I am happy with the result.”

Although Peter has contacted the Guinness World Records, to get his giant kebab into the record books it must be cooked, and apparently you can’t get burners large enough!

So instead, the huge lamb kebab is being donated to the nearby Colchester Garrison Regiment who will be having one giant takeaway. You can view footage of the moment Kismet unveiled its mammoth kebab by clicking here.

Kismet Kebabs produces over 50 tons of hand-made kebabs a week and employs 50 staff. The company is one year into an extensive five year expansion plan and is proud to be one of the very few manufacturers in the UK to be HMC (Halal Monitoring Committee) certified.

According to the Guinness World Records, the title for the world’s largest doner kebab is held by the Maroosh Lebanese Café in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, which made a 413kg (910.5lb) kebab on 23 October 2004.
