Young Fish Frier of the Year runner up Carlyn Johnson will be arriving in London tomorrow onboard Jimmy Buchan’s famous Amity II trawler, after winning the Fishermen’s Mission ‘Trawlerman for a Day’ auction.
Carlyn and her intrepid colleague Sara MacGregor from Frankie’s in Brae, Scotland’s most northerly fish and chip shop, set sail from Peterhead on Sunday 29th May and will arrive at St Katherine’s Dock tomorrow after the 450 mile trip down the east coast of the UK. The pair is joined onboard Amity II by the trawler’s owner and star of the hit BBC TV programme ‘Trawlerman’, Jimmy Buchan, as well as two other skippers James West and John Buchan.
On hearing the news that her £1430 bid had won her the auction, Carlyn said; “We have been frantically bidding on this charity trip for the past few weeks and were very surprised and delighted to have achieved the highest bid and secured two places on this voyage.
“We are also very happy that this donation is going to the Fishermen's Mission. The Mission is very well appreciated by fishermen and their families and is especially relevant in a small fishing community like ours in Shetland.”
Amity II will be moored in St Katharine’s Dock between 2nd and 4th June where she will be open for visitors to come onboard and meet the skippers.
The trip also marks the launch of Jimmy’s book ‘Trawlerman’, which will be available to purchase onboard.
