A fish and chip shop normally closed on Easter Monday opened its doors and donated the entire day's takings to children's charity Demelza.
Mehmet Mehmet owner of Fish etc in Belvedere, Kent, raised £1000 thanks to the generosity of his customers, his staff - who all gave their time free of charge - and some kind suppliers.
Harlequin provided 10,000 leaflets advertising the opening, Brothers Potato Suppliers donated the potatoes, Michael Meats in nearby Woolwich gave a box of fresh chickens and the local school, Barrington Primary, distributed an electronic flyer to every parent. Mehmet says: "The work that Demelza does in helping children in their last days is fantastic and I just wanted to help, being a parent myself. I thought about how footballers give a day's salary when I had the idea of doing this. Times may be hard but there are people out there suffering far more than me."
