Fish and chip shop chain Harry Ramsden's has been bought by Birmingham-based businessman Ranjit Boparan.

The renowned fish and chip shop chain, which has been the pride of Yorkshire since 1928, currently operates 36 restaurants and takeaways
across UK.

New owner Ranjit Boparan of Boparan Ventures said he was looking to open at least 100 new restaurants across the UK over the coming five years with plans to eventually open outlets across India and China as well. He comments: "Harry Ramsden's is a great British institution and we want to put it back on the map by focusing on the fundamental basics of superb service, exceptional value and, most importantly, the very best tasting fish and chips you can buy."
