Fish and chips in Guatemala

17 November 2008

British Embassy officials in Guatemala were served fish and chips, prepared to the exacting standard of Colman's fish and chip shop in South Shields, at the Queen's official birthday bash.

Over 500 guests were treated to fish and chips served in Colman's traditional takeaway boxes and served by staff wearing Colman's t-shirts.

Richard Ord, owner of Colman's, was approached by Embassy officials to help with the catering for the event after they heard about his famous fish shop.
Richard, who is the fourth generation to run the family business in Ocean Road, South Shields, was only too pleased to give Embassy officials his expertise and recipes.
