KEEPING IT LOCAL IN SEAFOOD FORTNIGHT

14 October 2008

Stuart Fusco of The Quayside Fish & Chip restaurant in Whitby made a bit of a splash during last month's Seafood Fortnight by linking up with a major supplier, Whitby Seafoods.

The joint promotion saw free samples of Whitby Whole Tail Scampi being given away at a special Quayside display stand. By working with a local supplier, Stuart, a former Drywite Young Fish Frier of the Year, used the fortnight to show customers the importance of reducing food miles, highlight the resurgence in popularity of scampi and sustainable fishing.

Whitby Seafoods was also grateful for the opportunity, its marketing chief Laura Whittle saying: "We also opened a few eyes to the how far scampi has come from the mushy, reformed scampi in a basket of the 1970s. Many people were unaware that Whitby Scampi, for example, contains far less salt than old fashioned versions, no artificial additives or preservatives, less than 2g of saturated fat and is rich in vitamins and minerals."
