It was fishnet stocking time again last month at Our Plaice in Hagley as the award-winning shop again ran a big fundraiser in aid of the Fisherman's Mission.
Owners Gregg and Caroline Howard run several such events on behalf of the Mission each year. And with a generous quota of attractive young ladies at Our Plaice the annual donning of wellies and stockings goes down a storm with customers. As well as the dressing up and other fun features customers were invited to thrown small change into wellies on departure. In all nearly £700 was raised.
Caroline also donates all proceeds from her circuit of talks on the Fish & Chip trade to outside organisations like WI's and community groups to the Mission. And last month she was especially pleased to receive support from some of the trade's best-known figures during the fundraiser, saying: "Gordon Hillan dropped in to help wang it in the wellies with Briar and Ken Wilkinson of Drywite, who are patrons of the Mission. All the local media turned up for a photo shoot, which appeared in the papers. They thought our staff were promotional models - but I said it was Gregg's recruitment policy!
